Adam was born in Johannesburg and has been fishing in some form or another all his life for all manner of fish. Adam was bitten by the fly-fishing bug about 15 years ago on a boy’s weekend to Belfast in Mpumalanga. It wasn’t long before he succumbed to the call of moving waters and started fishing the Vaal River for all the fish species that call the river their home.
He has guided on this and other rivers but has since decided that guiding is not his “thing”. He is saved from being a fly-fishing snob only by his willingness to throw a fly at anything that swims including such maligned species as the catfish, carp, bream, bass – anything goes. Adam gets a little twitchy when folks start talking about smallscale yellowfish, having fished for nothing else over the better part of two seasons and is still obsessing over them. His best catches on fly include a 30lb catfish, a 25lb carp, a 29 inch trout, a 7lb bass and a 1oz vlei kurper on a # 32 emerging midge. His latest obsession, shared by Tom Lewin, is fishing small, clean and wild streams with bamboo fly-rods and dry flies. Adam is a firm believer in the mojo of “doing it properly”. |
