Sage have broken new ground with the Sage One Fly Rod Series, allowing the caster to become "ONE" with the fly rod.
By using Sage's latest proprietary resign and advancement in graphite technologies, Sage have produced a revolutionary new fly road series. Read more to better understand what has been achieved.
Here’s the deal:
The ONE™ Rod with Konnetic™ technology is a new generation of fly rod that gives anglers exceptional tracking and torsional stability, resulting in casting accuracy that is unparalleled in the marketplace.
Jerry’s take:
“The ONE Rod offers a more fluid transmission of energy from the arm to the fly. The eye sees the cast it wants to make and it is translated to the hand and through the rod instantaneously.” - Jerry Siem, Chief Rod Designer
The Nuts & Bolts:
The ONE Rod’s superior casting range: Smooth, precise and with an intentionally forgiving “sweet spot” that complements widely diverse casting styles, the ONE rod helps a fly fisher make a full range of close-in and long-distance casts that hit the mark with equal ease.
The ONE Rod’s ultimate control and forgiveness: Being able to feel exactly what the line is doing through all stages of a cast gives anglers ultimate control so that they can make the micro adjustments needed to place the fly precisely where they want it.
The ONE Rod’s intuitive casting precision: The rod becomes a true extension of your arm, allowing you to place the fly exactly where you want without having to think about the cast.
What’s under the hood:
Engineered energy: Konnetic technology utilizes new high-modulus composite materials under high compression that provide energy and superior torsional stability throughout the blank without dissipation.
Smaller, lighter, smoother: Smaller diameter Konnetic technology blanks provide true aerodynamic efficiency while reducing weight by 25%. Low-profile ferrules help direct and carry energy throughout the rod without sacrificing critical action and feel.
Inside Konnetic Technology:
Konnetic technology utilizes a new high-modulus composite combined with a high-compression moulding process. This results in greater fibre nesting and fuses the inner core to the axial fibres. This allows for superior tracking with virtually no lateral or torsional movement, resulting in extraordinary casting accuracy.
Konnetic Technology = Focused Energy
Konnetic technology provides more focused energy throughout the entire rod blank, resulting in very little sideways cast deflection due to wasted lateral movement. Without being stiff or unwieldy, rods recover extremely quickly during casting, leading to improved accuracy due to efficient, distortion-free energy transfer.
Sage has created a highly responsive and robust blank with significantly enhanced torsional stability and minimal vibration, for casts that track effortlessly and accurately.
What’s more:
Custom Cork Handle. Snub-nose, half-Wells grip on 3-6 weights and full-Wells grip with fighting butt on saltwater weights 6-10 enable a more relaxed grip for improved control, feel and comfort.
New Low-Profile Ferrules. The inherent strength of Konnetic technology allows us to reduce the weight of our all-graphite ferrule connections by nearly 70%.
Reel Seat. The warm, elegant tones of the walnut insert are perfectly married with the bronze anodized aluminium reel seat.
Black Rod Tube. Handmade on Bainbridge Island like all our tubes, this distinctive rod tube features a raised logo medallion and comes with a hand-sewn rod sleeve.
Black Ice Colour. Sage’s first black rod, this translucent black finish is complemented by black guide wraps and bronze trim wraps.
In August/September 2011, Sage Manufacturing will be launching The ONE rod series.
The ONE rod is the first fly rod to take advantage of Sage’s ground breaking Konnetic technology.
Konnetic technology, the most recent evolution in fly rod innovation, uses new materials combined with pioneering manufacturing methods and processes. This technology incorporates an optimized ratio of Sage’s proprietary resin to exclusive high modulus aerospace-grade carbon fibre.
The latest construction methods include Sage’s Advanced Modulus Positioning System (AMPS); a process that precisely aligns and positions carbon fibre materials to exacting tolerances for the greatest blank strength, delivering extremely efficient energy transfer throughout the shaft. Using Sage’s High Compression Moulding process, carbon fibres are compacted for optimum density and precise alignment while simultaneously fusing the 50 percent lighter all-carbon fibre inner core.
The ONE offers exceptional tracking with virtually no lateral or torsional movement, resulting in what Sage claims is unparalleled casting accuracy.
The inherent strength of Konnetic technology allows ONE rods to have a smaller diameter as well as weigh 25 percent lighter than comparable Sage rods. These attributes combine to provide augmented aerodynamic efficiency.
Further innovations are the 70 percent lighter, low profile ferrules that help direct and carry energy through the rod without sacrificing strength, critical action and feel.
“The ONE rod becomes a true extension of the angler’s arm,” notes Sage Chief Rod Designer, Jerry Siem. “It offers a more fluid transmission of energy from the arm to the fly. The eye sees the cast it wants to make and is translated to the hand through the rod instantaneously.”
The fast-action ONE rod family is intended for all fishing conditions thanks to a list of high-end features. A custom cork handle is fashioned in a snub-nose, half-wells grip on the 3 through 6 weights and a full-wells handle with fighting butt on the saltwater capable 6 through 10-weights. Each handle is designed to match the exact taper of the rod providing even greater sensitivity and feel.
Other details include the Sage-designed round eye tip-top which never pinches or binds the line, allowing the caster to mend and cast in any direction with full control.
On the 3 through 6-weights, the elegant walnut insert is perfectly married with the bronze anodized aluminium reel seat. Saltwater weights feature all anodized reel seat components.
The ONE Rod comes in a new black ice colour, which has a translucent finish and is complemented by black guide wraps and bronze trim wraps. Each rod comes with a powder-coated aluminium rod tube with Sage medallion and a hand-made rod sock.
“The ONE Rod is smooth and precise with an intentionally forgiving ‘sweet spot’ that complements widely diverse casting styles,” says Eric Gewiss, Sage’s Marketing Manager. “This helps the angler make a full range of close-in and long distance casts that hit the mark with equal ease. Being able to feel exactly what the line is doing through all stages of the cast gives anglers ultimate control so they can make the micro-adjustments needed to place the fly precisely where it’s wanted.”
Already award winning, the ONE rod has been recognized as the “Best New Fly Rod” at EFTTEX 2011. Award ceremonies were held at the EFTTEX show in Amsterdam.
The ONE rod will be available at Sage authorized retail locations in August / September 2011 with a selection of 22 single hand models. ONE rods range from 3 through 10-weights.
