Tom Lewin Rainbow Trout Jurassic Lake ArgentinaTom Lewin started fly-fishing in 1978 and began tying flies in 1985. He is a self-taught fly-fisherman and fly-tyer. Tom has fished extensively throughout South Africa, particularly in the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal, the Western Cape, the north-eastern Cape and Mpumalanga. He has also fished extensively abroad, including the United Kingdom, the Seychelles, both the eastern and western sides of the United States, Argentina, Alaska, Cuba and New Zealand. His preferred foreign country is New Zealand, although his favourite river is the flat water section (the Railroad Ranch or Harriman State Park) of the Henry's Fork in north-eastern Idaho.

Tom considers guiding the late Lee Wulff on the Witte River in the Western Cape in 1989 as one of the highlights of his fly-fishing career. His preferred target species is trout, and his preference is for fishing technically demanding small streams and spring creeks, such as the legendary spring creeks around the Livingston area of Montana.

His fishing and tying styles have been influenced mostly by legendary Idahoan fly-fisherman and tyer Rene Harrop whom he has met on several occasions during his travels to the American West. Tom is passionate about fine, split bamboo fly-rods, which he collects and fishes at every opportunity. Tom brings a wealth of fly-fishing experience to Frontier Fly Fishing, with 31 years on the water.
